Wiltshire Farming Discussion Group

The Wiltshire Farming Discussion Group has been re-launched in April 2015.  We plan to meet about four times a year and the meetings will either be to listen to an invited Speaker or visit somewhere of interest.  The year will culminate with a Christmas Dinner.  The aim of the Group is to provide opportunities for farmers and farming professionals to meet and socialise in an informal setting.

Meetings in 2015

Tuesday, 2nd June

You may have read the publicity surrounding the building and opening of a long barrow in Wiltshire by farmer, Tim Daw at All Cannings.  This is an extremely interesting farm diversification and Tim has agreed to give us a talk and tour.

The barrow is a columbarium or place for cremated remains in urns to be kept. It was built in 2014 in the style of a traditional long barrow in natural materials, but made relevant for today in its internal layout. It is aligned to the sunrise of the winter solstice when the sun will illuminate the internal stone passageway.  All Cannings lies within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Time : Meet at 5.30 p.m.

Venue : The Long Barrow, ½ mile north of All Cannings.

Supper: After the tour we will go for supper at the Kings Arms at All Cannings.

Cost: £20 per person to include a main course, pudding and coffee.  Payable on booking.
